A stunning Grade II listed cottage in beautiful grounds in Lewes, East Sussex, brought up to date with sustainability in mind. This fantastic project, comprises three elements, a Georgian cottage, contemporary 'pavilion' and beautiful landscape gardens thoughtfully connected with glazed links and natural light. The elements of the project are deliberately distinct in their materials. The cottage preserves its original materials, character and proportion. The new pavilion combines clean white render with locally sourced sweet chestnut cladding, and the glass link clearly differentiates between old and new. The project generates all its energy demands on site through the careful siting of photovoltaic panels on both the existing cottage and pavilion. Extensive negotiations with the local planning authority were undertaken, with careful consideration of the Grade II listed status, conservation area and south downs national park , in order to secure permission to modernise the home.
