The designers were tasked with the complete refurbishment of an old Mew's house in Maida Vale, Central London. The building's interior layout had been continuously changed over the past century, leaving it in a very disorganised state. After much careful planning with the client, the designers came up with a solution to completely gut the interior leaving only its exterior walls, not only allowing for the safe creation of a new 3m tall basement level but also allowing for the complete reimagining of the building's interior layout. The result is a spacious and pragmatic layout that prioritises the living and sleeping areas, rather than the circulation, which had made the building incredibly inefficient before. The designers were involved from the concept phase which included the planning application for the basement with Westminster council, all the way through to completion.
