Mibe Architects were appointed to design and develop a contemporary style, five bedroom dwelling located on a greenbelt site in Langdon Hills, Essex. The proposal is for a replacement dwelling which looks to transform an ageing and dilapidated site with a modern building that enhances its setting whilst offering the client a multitude of vistas and unobstructed views of the Essex country side.
Vertical charred timber and aluminum cladding are used to breakdown the architectural massing and elevation whilst sympathetically merging with its woodland backdrop.
The proposal achieved planning consent for a dwelling 560% larger than the existing, meaning only very special circumstances would overcome it being determined unacceptable development within the greenbelt.
Mibe Architects achieved this by careful design and material consideration that allowed the proposal to nestle itself into the site, and although being larger, having “a lesser visual impact upon the landscape than the existing” Planning Officer Report.
