House in Dartmouth Park

This project entailed the conversion of 3 flats into a 5-storey house. The main challenge in a house of these characteristics is the vertical circulation: it is key that moving from floor to floor is a beautiful experience and that it doesn’t feel overwhelming or unpleasant.
To do so we have enlarged the stair to introduce a void in the middle. This gives importance and grandeur to the stair and allows the natural light coming from the top to travel all the way through into the basement.
the sculptural nature of the stair and the sinuosity also add a hint of fun and pleasure to the experience.
