The context for this unusual London house is an original Victorian school building.
The main challenge with this project was to bring light into the centre of the floorplan, once part of a long corridor serving classrooms either side.
The solution is achieved by moving the vertical circulation into the centre of the building, creating a full height void flooded with natural light. The resulting freed-up area that benefits from a large window, is turned into a studio/ extra bedroom and is closed with a glazed partition that contributes to the lighting of the core of the house.
The accommodation is on 3 levels, with the common spaces on the ground floor and the bedrooms above.
