Having been in family ownership for a number of years we were appointed by the client to renovate, modernise and remodel the existing 1960’s beach house.
The focus of the design was to achieve a light, airy and comfortable contemporary home that took inspiration from the local vernacular and the surrounding context. The desire was re-invigorate the original 60’s beach house by capitalising on its strong gable ended form and accentuating its key features.
The design was achieved by a series of additions and interventions, such as fully opening up the gable end to maximise the coastal views and extending the property to the rear to allow for increased internal floor space.
A key requirement was to ensure the needs of a beach user were met, with particular consideration given towards storage, external showers and a sauna, which culminated in the addition of a small ’beach hut’ towards the front of the plot.
