The complete modernisation of a Clapham Common apartment by creating an open-plan space, adding a loft master suite, and a roof terrace. The design focuses on connecting levels, maximising natural light, and respecting conservation area guidelines from the local authority Lambeth.
The existing small cellular spaces where replanned to create a bright new open-plan family room.
The apartment was extended into the loft and create a new master bedroom suite.
A new roof terrace adds some much-needed private outdoor space.
The stairs were central to the design, with a half-level introduced to maximise the connection to the new roof terrace. This layout enhanced natural light in the apartment's centre and better connects the living spaces together. The stairs transition from traditional metal balustrades to open tread steel with a glazed balustrade, distinguishing the old from the new.
