We were selected, through an invited competition, for the refurbishment and extension of a 5 storey, mixed-use building on the corner of Bateman and Frith Street in Soho. The project will involve the refurbishment of existing residential units on the upper floors of the building with a contemporary roof extension providing an additional two apartments, all whilst maintaining commercial activity, at ground floor, throughout the works.
This sensitive extension project will provide additional residential floorspace on this constrained inner-city site, navigating a range of planning, rights of light and construction issues. The proposed roof extension is a simple, robust, yet eye-catching addition that will draw the viewer’s eye up from street level. New windows to the existing building and a wholly refurbished entrance on Bateman Street will unify the building through detail and materiality.
The high-end, modern interiors will allow the client to significantly increase the rental yield from the development. We have proposed an exciting material palette and colour scheme, drawing reference from the style and culture of Soho whilst promoting the use of British, sustainable and eco-friendly materials.
