Cassell Architects were appointed for RIBA stages 0-3 by a vital local charity for this mixed use development project in Islington. The proposal is for the sustainable refurbishment and extension to the building known as 5 & 6 Purley Place, an existing office building and former victorian workshop / warehouse.
The proposal seeks to unlock its potential and deliver a true legacy building that will support the charity for the long term, while also delivering a lasting community benefit. A key driver of this proposal is the creation of new fully accessible community facilities on the ground floor level, these will serve as a vital hub for activities, services, and advocacy - delivering a measurable
social impact aligned with Islington’s social inclusion and health and wellbeing priorities.
Additionally the long-vacant upper floors will be re-purposed for residential use with the creation of a contemporary light weight loft extension delivering sufficient habitable internal floor area for two new 3 bed 4 person residential units, with new dedicated access from the muse street that it is situated on.
