Our proposals for a compact flat in a 1990's purpose-built flat-block. This recent project demonstrates how design can transform limited spaces into functional and delightful homes.
Despite its modest size, the flat is tailored perfectly for its owner. The main bedroom serves as both a resting space and a productive work-from-home room. The living room combines areas for sitting, dining, and even piano practice. The kitchen is equipped with storage solutions for a variety of appliances, perfect for a cooking enthusiast. Additionally, the flat includes a separate washing machine and tumble dryer, and a fully equipped bathroom for bathing and relaxation.
Given the flat’s restrictions (no structural or plumbing changes were permitted) and working within a tight budget and short timeline, we had to think creatively. Each room is designed to fulfil multiple purposes without feeling cluttered. Integrated living areas ensure that every square meter is used wisely, and essential amenities are prioritised for daily comfort.
By focusing on essential features and minimising unnecessary space, we achieved a design that is both cost-effective and sophisticated. This cosy flat challenges the notion that bigger is always better. It shows how well-designed, smaller homes can offer a rich and fulfilling lifestyle.
